CSS Books

Designing with Web Standards (Voices That Matter) by Jeffrey Zeldman
This is the book that started it for me and you’d be hard pressed to find a better introduction to designing web sites with web standards. Nicely written, comprehensive, accurate and a book that I find myself coming back to time and time again.

Bulletproof Web Design: Improving Flexibility and Protecting Against Worst-Case Scenarios with XHTML and CSS by Dan Cederholm
This easy to read book by Dan Cederholm is basically “cookbook” that uses a problem and solution approach to solve common problems. It is one of the few books to feature colour photos and is highly popular book in the css world. It skips over some important basics like the box model hack so I’d recommend this an a companion book to “Designing with Web Standards”.

Again a well written and comprehensive guide to CSS with over 400 pages that acts as a perfect beginners guide to web standards and reference book. I haven’t read a bad review on this book yet.

Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design
A book for advanced css developers and designers who want to delve into the art of developing more difficult css layouts. The book helps designers understand how to implement highly creative designs by visually demonstrating creative possibilities and how to achieve them using contemporary techniques. There’s a lot of photography in this book and its definitely coffee book material so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
