Web standards and the Apple iPhone

A photo of Apples new iPhone

Well it seems everyone and their dog is talking about the Apple iPhone and it remains to be seen as to whether this is the killer app that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs thinks it is. The great news (if it really takes off that is) is that for web developers at least, building websites for this device should be a lot simpler as it comes with a customized version of Safari. So we get all the support for web standards, Ajax, and other niceties that come with it. more…

Safari now available for Windows

Safari for Windows

Apple’s flagship web browser Safari is now available in a public beta. I’ve been itching to try this browser for a while and it was one of the reasons I was actually thinking of buying an Intel mac. It’s meant to be up to 2 times faster than IE 7 and 1.6 faster than FireFox (which can be a little slow sometimes). On first glance it seems pretty fast although it did seem to crash my laptop running Windows Xp Sp2. It’s still a beta at the moment so hopefully this won’t happen when the final release comes along. On a positive note I really like the smooth text rendering and it has all the great features of FireFox such as tabbed browing ( still alittle dark for my taste though), popup blocker, built in rss, security features etc. Wether it will tear me away from FireFox long term I don’t know as the extensibility of FireFox is unparreled at the moment.

Decide for yourself by downloading Safari via the link below.
