Personally I dont use this method, the performace just drops imo, I prefer to use a design that will work with both naturally.

Do you have a source for IE8 not supporting conditional comments? I’ve not been able to find anything supporting this on the IEblog.

@ms: why would using *{margin: 0px; padding: 0px} waste SERVER power? That has nothing to do with servers - please get your facts straight before posting.

As for the conditional comments - it’s not a good idea to use them now, when we know that IE8 wont support them and it will include all the CSS - even when commented and ment for other versions of IE. Better idea would be to detect the browser at server level and deciding to show them or not by your programming language of choice (be it PHP, Perl or anything else).

I have to be honest I’ve not noticed any performance drops using this technique but it’s always good to know about other techniques and Eric Meyer’s reset.css looks interesting.

I’ve heard that the global reset * {margin:0;padding:0;} is actually not a good thing to do and that it’s saps more browser and server power than needed.

Better to start off with Eric Meyer reset.css
